EG1004 Plagiarism and Plagiarism Policy
PLAGIARISM
Plagiarism is a breach of ethical standards. Passing off someone else's words or thoughts as your own is unacceptable in all arenas. Recently, two top editors at the New York Times resigned when it was revealed that a journalist in their employ had plagiarized many of the articles he had written. It is a very serious offense.
At Polytechnic, the University Code of Conduct states that it is prohibited to intentionally or knowingly represent the words or ideas of another as one’s own in any academic exercise.
EG PLAGIARISM POLICY
In EG, this means that all the work you submit must be written in your own words. We actively compare your work with work submitted by current and former students, information available online, and this manual. If you are found to be representing someone else’s words as your own there will be a penalty.
For the first offense you will receive a lab grade of zero for both the TA and WC parts of the lab. The second offense will result in an "F" grade for the course.
If you are unsure of how to correctly paraphrase the work of others and use it yourself in a manner that is academically acceptable, ask your writing consultant for help.
